ACS MEDI division news

Pat was a stalwart in leadership positions for the division spanning 25 years. He was instrumental in bringing MEDI online and created the first website for any division in the ACS. Pat put a lot of the heavy lifting into establishing the Medicinal Chemistry Hall of Fame, an echelon of elite medicinal chemists a group to which he was inducted in 2019. Over the years Pat performed every leadership role in the Division: Webmaster: 1994-2010 Secretary: 2001-2010 Vice-Chair, Chair, Past Chair: 2011, 2012 (Chair), 2013 NMCS Co-Chair: 2014 Membership and International Relations: 2014-2018 Pat was a consummate educator and scientist having held faculty positions at Wayne State University and most recently the Medical University of South Carolina where he was a distinguished university professor, Vincent T. Peng and SmartState endowed professor of drug discovery and chair of the Department of Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences. In 2021 he received an honorary degree from his alma mater the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He will be deeply missed by his students, colleagues and the medicinal chemistry community. Pat is survived by his wife Carin, his father and his two sons and their families.
